Why Do I Need Adobe Reader On My Computer?

Well, you don't need it, but you might want it in order to view many of the important files that you might find on the Web. Files that you will find in Adobe's PDF format are common documents like IRS forms, product manuals, reports, business information, maps, e-books (electronic books) - which includes all formats like novels, plays, poetry, magazines and historic documents - and many other documents.

Let's take an example: (sorry reader's outside of the USA, you may not totally 'get' this reference!) It's April and U. S. taxes are due. You start your paperwork and realize that you did something different last year and need another form that's not in your regular packet.

Apple Computer

OK ... what's the procedure for this ... you get in the car, drive to the local post office, park the car, go in and rummage around the piles of forms that are there and it isn't there. Oh well, get back in the car and drive to the downtown federal buildings and again find a parking place ... find the IRS office ... look through the stacks of forms to find the right one ... finally find it and proceed to make your way back to the car ... fight the downtown traffic back home and now you are too tired to work on your taxes!

Whew!! That sounds like a lot of work! Well, I can tell you for certain that there is an easier way to get that form! Here's the new procedure:

Connect to the internet (however you connect); open up a browser (where you view web pages: like Internet Explorer, Netscape, or AOL's browser); go to the address bar (box) near the top of the window; type in [http://www.irs.gov;] press the Enter key or click on the 'Go' button to get you to the site.

Now, over to the left you'll see a heading labeled "Most Requested Forms and Publications" and below it you'll see a list of the most common forms that people request. If your form is not listed, then simply click on the last link in that section labeled "More Forms and Publications" which will bring you to a different page.

Now, this is the most difficult part of the whole procedure ... remember now, this is a government web site, it's not supposed to be easy! On the page there are about '500' links - well, it seems like that many! Anyway, at this point - don't give up now! - look at your situation - do you know the name and or number of the form that you need? If you do, then simply click on the very first link under the heading: "Download Forms and Publications by:" which will get you to another page with the listing of all the forms available on the site. It looks very confusing but don't give up yet!

If you look at the first column to the left of the list it looks like there's no rhyme or reason to it (oh, that's right, it doesn't have to! It's the IRS after all!) - just kind of ignore that column and look at the next column of information. This column will contain the more familiar form name and number and it is in order! You will see the more common forms like Form 1040 and 1040A and when you do, you will notice that the ones that are before it are forms in the 900 range of numbers, so you can see that all you need to do is find the number for the form you need and then choose it.

You choose it by clicking on the line that the form is on and then go down a bit on the page and click on the button that says "Review Selected Files". You will have a link on a new page for that particular form that you selected. Make sure that it is the correct form number and then go ahead and click on that link. If it isn't correct, click on the back button and try again.

By clicking on that link, you are choosing a PDF formatted document - by the way PDF stands for Portable Document Format and is also the extension for each document. So if you see a file in your folders on your computer that looks like this: filename.pdf - that file can only be viewed by the Adobe Reader software.

Getting back to the IRS website, when you click on that link, you don't have to do anything else other than to watch it come up in your Adobe Reader - that is, you will if you have it installed on your computer. Need to get it? Simply go to www.adobe.com where you will find a link to download the software for free!

Now, so you can find it and use it again, make sure that you click on the "Save a Copy" button in the left corner to save that form that you searched so hard for! Also, don't forget to go back to the list after you save the form to get any instructions that go with the form. Bring it into your Adobe Reader software the same way and you're ready to work on your taxes!

Now, even though it took a while to write out these instructions on how to get a form from the web site, it is actually a very quick procedure!

So, why do people and companies use PDF documents so extensively?

PDF files are enormously popular because of 2 main features: they retain the original formatting for the document and they are "portable".

Formatting is the design - the look and 'feel' of the document. Easily represented by forms to fill out that need to look and print the same for each person, like the tax forms, it's meant to be a standard 'view' no matter what 'platform' it's viewed on - Windows computers, Macintosh computers, Unix computers or any portable device like a cell phone. Consistency is the key here and that is why people choose to create and transmit documents in PDF format.

The Best Laptop Computer For College Students

Laptops are now essential for college students as the books. Today many professors will assign online work and homework. Some colleges even now have online classes you can take. A common question from college students is "What is the best laptop computer for college students?" I want to say there is not exactly one laptop that is the best for all college students. There are a huge variety of laptops available to choose from. I am going to tell you what you should look for in a laptop and I provide a link to a recommendation where you can in my opinion buy the best laptop computer for college student.

Buy a laptop you can afford

Apple Computer

There are a lot of fancy laptops out there, but you do not need to buy the most expensive laptop. As a college student you already have tuition, books, school materials, and possible loans to pay for. Most laptops now today can do pretty much the same thing, and provide what is needed for school, such internet access, word processing, basic tasks, music, and even games that you may be interested in.

A light and thin laptop is best

A common reason people love laptops is because of their portability. As a college student you most likely will have to carry multiple books with you throughout the campus for your class. You do not need a heavy fat machine adding extra weight to drag you down. Many up-to-date lightweight laptops are now on the market, and will make your walk through the campus a lot easier.

Buying a laptop with wireless internet is important

Today most colleges provide wireless internet on their campus, and offer the service to their students. So it is important for you to buy a laptop with wireless internet access. A laptop with wireless internet access can connect to the school's wireless internet connection anywhere within the campus, regardless if you is outside or in one of the school's facilities. If your school do not have wireless internet, it most likely will soon, so it is still important to buy a laptop with wireless internet access.

Space and Speed

I would like to also mention that if you plan on storing music and games on your laptop, you should consider the speed and hard drive capacity when buying a laptop. You should buy a laptop with at least 60-70 GB (Gigabites) of hard drive capacity (hard drive stores information) and processor speed of at least 1.46GHz (determines speed of laptop)

Computer History and Impact of Computers to the World

Personal computers have completely revolutionized the way the world, lives, works and conducts business. Strictly-speaking, computers arrived on the scene way back in 1936 when one Konrad Zuse produced what was then called the Z1 computer. This was a cumbersome machine that could perform simple calculations and also crunch simple data. This was not as sophisticated as what we have today but it served to set the foundation for further research and in 1944, John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry from Iowa University built on this model and produced several innovations of the computer which was capable of producing arithmetic calculations, parallel [processing, memory regeneration and other simple computing tasks. The research was taken further at Harvard University, then IBM, the business conglomerate joined the fray and in 1953 produced what was then the world's first sophisticated computer. Even then, it was still large, occupying entire floors and consuming untold power.

As we have mentioned, computers have completely changed the way we live and work. Today, computers are in almost every office. There are still offices in some parts of the world which still don't have computers but this is now rare because without computers, work is inefficient and cumbersome. Take for instance calculations. It would take days for companies to do simple calculations not to mention companies that deal with lots of material and inventory. Computers make this work simple and allow businesses to become more efficient on a day to day basis.

Apple Computer

Another use of computers is communication. With computers has come the wondrous world of the Internet or what is called in other circles, the World Wide Web or Information Superhighway. As much as computer has changed the way we work, they have also revolutionized the way we communicate. The term "the world is a smaller place" or phrases like "global market place". This is because the Internet has made communication so easy and seamless that there has people can communicate instantaneously regardless of what part of the globe they are located. The world of email, although it hasn't completely resulted in the eradication of snail mail, has nevertheless caused a decline in visits to the post office or the purchase of stamps. All this is because people now sit behind a computer and email back and forth. To go even further, specialized Internet software run by many major companies such as Microsoft, Yahoo and Google has made it possible to chat in real time with someone on the other side of the globe. Video conferencing has also been made possible. This has completely changed the way we conduct meetings. Businesses can now even open branches in other countries faster because the top level management can communicate with lower management via video conferencing. People can actually see each other regardless of where they are located and all this is courtesy of the advent of computers and the Internet. Computers have evolved a lot since and are now in almost half of all US households and most offices in the rest of the world.

Computer Speakers - Envoicing the Computer

These speakers are commonly equipped with a low power internal amplifier. The standard audio connection is a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug often color-coded lime green for computer sound cards. A plug and socket for a two wire coaxial cable is widely used to connect analog audio and video components. There are USB speakers which are powered from 5 volts to 200 milliamps provided by the USB port, allowing half a watt of output power. Computer speakers are present in a wide variety depending on their quality and price. The computer speakers that accompany the computer systems are small plastic boxes with mediocre sound quality. Some of the slightly better ones have equalization features such as bass and treble controls, improving their sound quality to some extent.

The internal amplifiers require an external power source, known as wall-wart. More sophisticated computer speakers may have a sub woofer unit to enhance bass output, and these units usually include the power amplitude and the small satellite speakers. some may even have built-in speakers as well.

Apple Computer

Most of the computer speakers are equipped with an LED power indicator, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, controls for volume and sometimes for even bass and treble and a remote volume control. When computers were originally released, they had on board speakers that generated a series of different tone and beeps. As multimedia and games became popular, higher quality sound effects and music. Speakers are generally rated in frequency response, total Harmonic Distortions and watts. Today, good quality speakers are self-powered and equipped with all the latest features. These are relatively small in size to fit on desks or on the side of monitors and contain magnetic shielding.

Adding speakers to one's computers can increase its functionality and enriches the experience of using it besides adding to the extent of recreation one gets after getting on with them. In today's world, when we are getting advanced each second, its very hard to imagine using computers without speakers attached to them. The Computer Speakers are essential for the smooth functioning of all the functionalities. Nowadays, there are various speakers like standard, USB and multi-channel etc available and one can choose according to his needs and comforts.

Define Computer Hardware

It is quite well known that the working of the computer is pulled by hardware and software. One can define computer hardware as the electronic, magnetic, and electric devices that carry out the computing functions. Hardware is the physical components of the computer like microprocessor, hard disks, RAM, and motherboard. The peripheral devices such as monitor, mouse, keyboard, printer, and speakers can also be included in the list of hardware parts. The programs that run on the computers like Windows, C++, and Photoshop are the software parts of the computer. A good example for an easy understanding of hardware-software definition is music CDs. The actual compact disk is the hardware, while the songs and music in the CD are the software parts.

There is another way to define computer hardware. Hardware devices are the executors of the commands provided by software applications. For example, let us see what happens when you click the print button of the web browsing software. The software application provides a command to the processor, which is the central part of all computer hardware. Processor in turn checks for an attached printer. If the printer is ready, the software will get a positive response from the processor. Then the software application provides instruction to the printer via the processor to print the web page. In that sense, hardware parts are the foot soldiers and software applications are the commanders in the digital operation that takes place within a computer.

Apple Computer

The main player of computer hardware is undoubtedly the microprocessor. It is the sun in the solar system of computer hardware devices. It is the central component and all other components work around it. It is an integrated chip on which a number of functions are incorporated. Two specifications determine its efficiency. One is its processing speed, which is measured in gigahertz. The other is its bit rate. Commonly available processors are 32 bit and 64 bit. The bit rate is a measure of the efficiency of a processor to carry out multiple operations at the same time.

One cannot define computer hardware without mentioning the two types of memory used in computers. One is permanent memory. It refers to the magnetic storage capacity of hard disk. It is measured in gigabytes. The second is RAM or random access memory. This memory is able to store data only when the computer is switched on. The memory will lose all the data when the computer is switched off.

Another important product that one should mention when one defines computer hardware is motherboard. It is the electric and electronic circuit board on which all the other components are inserted. There are several other kinds of products such as sound card, video card, network card, and modem that complete the hardware spectrum.

Buy Computer RAM

Increasing your computer RAM can improve your efficiency when working from home, since RAM is useful for speeding up the running of applications and enabling your computer to have more programs running at once it means you can simply get more tasks completed in a faster and more productive way.

A large amount of computer RAM is essential to future proof your machine, as computer programs and operating systems get more advanced and have more features they simply require more memory resources to keep them running smoothly without a noticeable difference in the performance of your computer.

Apple Computer

It really does make sense to buy as much computer ram as you can afford, perhaps saving up to purchase large amounts is the best method if you have limited upgrade potential.

Computer ram comes in mainly different sizes and brands, some brand names within the industry are Kingston and Corsair, there are also many different types of RAM including SDRAM, DDR and Rambus DRAM, each of these serve different purposes, DDR Memory stands for Double Data Rate, this means it transfers data at double the speed of SDRAM.

Cache memory is the middle ground between the processor and the main memory installed in the machine, cache memory stores data that has been recently used, it does this so that your machine doesn't have to take up valuable resources by referring back to the main computer memory, this saves time by not having to reload the information from the main memory which also leaves the processor free to take on other tasks.

The Best Computer For Graphic Design

Since Desktop Publishing (DTP) came out in the eighties, graphic designers have been utilizing computer technology. This has pushed all graphic designers to become competent with computer hardware at the very least.

What is Desktop Publishing (DTP)? In the 1980s, it was a common term applied to digital publishing systems. These systems were developed to replace large, pre-press, specialist design and compositing systems.

Graphic designers rely heavily on computers whether these are Windows PCs or Apple Macs. Whichever computer a graphic designer chooses to use, he/she will opt for the best computer that he/she can purchase. Graphic designers will rarely choose cheap computer hardware.

Back in the eighties, Macs were the only choice for designing and printing. Almost all design layout and graphics software was developed for Macs only or even if the software could be used in Microsoft Windows PC, it was much more reliable on a Mac. Additionally, at that time, Macs were associated with the different technologies used in the prepress and Windows PC was just not a practical choice. Today, modern versions of Mac OS X and Windows allow graphics designers to use design software either in a Mac or PC - they are no longer forced to choose one over the other.

Many graphic designers are not IT experts and making a decision on which computer to buy can be quite daunting. Of course, if money is not a problem, the decision would simply be to buy the most expensive Apple Mac or Windows PC. But most designers cannot afford to do that. In fact, some creative professionals have budgets for second hand equipment only. What really matters to these graphic designers are issues that regular computer users do not even have to think about. These are printer color accuracy, monitor calibration, hard disk speed and external storage devices for gigabytes of data.

Recent studies show that the top 5 computers for graphic design are a mix of Macs and PCs and both laptop and desktop computers fall in this category. But just like any product that a consumer buys, it really is the personal preference of the designer whether he/she will use a desktop computer or a laptop. The important thing is that the user/graphic designer has the appropriate software for the type of computer that he/she wants to purchase.

The Top 5 computers for graphic design are:

Mac Pro Desktop

The Mac line of computers is still widely preferred by most graphic designers. According to Apple, the latest Mac Pro features the all new quad-core Intel Xeon "Nehalen" processor which makes the job of a graphic designer much easier. Apple states further that the new Mac Pro is up to 1.9 times faster than its predecessor. Each processor has an integrated memory controller that allows the processors to have faster access to stored data in the computer's memory, with memory latency decreased by up to 40 percent. This feature will save a lot of time for designers when they do their work.

MacBook Pro Laptop

The MacBook Pro Laptop comes in 13, 15 and 17 inch sizes. It has high-performance NVDIA graphics and LED backlit display which makes editing graphics easier and clearer. This latest model has battery power that lasts up to 8 hours (on 17-inch version). It is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Dell Studio XPS Desktop

How To Play Movies On An Apple Mac Computer

I got a question where someone asked me how to "play movies on Apple computer". The answer to this depends on what you mean by playing movies.

The reason I'm mentioning this is because the person who asked just said they wanted to know "how to play movies on Apple computer" and didn't mention if they meant a DVD movie, a movie they'd downloaded off the Internet, or a video file (or movie) on a web page. Depending on which they meant, the answer is a little different.

Apple Computer

First off, let's assume that when they said "play movies on Apple computer" that they meant a DVD movie.

Well, that's a very simple answer: any Mac (Apple computers are called Macs, with specific models like iMac, MacBook, etc.) made in the last several years can play DVDs. 99% of the time, just pop the DVD in the drive, and DVD Player will open automatically and start playing the movie.

Worst case scenario, you'll need to open your hard drive, then open the Applications folder, then look for the file DVD Player, and double-click it, and the movie will play. It's very rare for you to have to do anything more than pop the DVD in the drive.

So another possible meaning for "play movies on Apple computer" would be a movie you've downloaded off the Internet. There's a lot of different types of video files (video just means moving pictures, just like a movie) that are sent by email, or that can be downloaded off a web site.

If you want to play a movie or TV show you've bought from the iTunes Store, iTunes itself will play the movie using Quicktime. Quicktime is a program made by Apple for both their own Apple Mac computers, as well as for Windows PCs, and it comes automatically with iTunes.

Quicktime can play a lot of different types of video files, so it's one way to play movies on Apple computer. If you've got a movie file that you got by email, or that you saved from a website, Quicktime will probably play it, and it is already installed on every computer made by Apple.

There are exceptions, so if you can't play a video file (movie) when you double-click it, and Quicktime gives you an error message, then another option is the free VLC Player.

VLC Player is a free program that will play just about any type of video file you can get off the Internet, personally it's my favorite way to play movies on Apple computers. VLC Player is also available for Windows.

Lastly, if the person who asked how to "play movies on Apple computer" was talking about playing the movie on a web page, then again, Quicktime will work for a lot of these movies, and VLC might do the trick too (although I've had problems in the past getting it to play movies that are "embedded" in web pages).

One of the most popular ways to put videos onto web pages is in Flash format. Flash Player is free, and comes already installed on most computers. As time passes, though, this looks likely to be replaced by "HTML5" which will let your web browser play videos without having to add Flash Player or any other extra "browser plug-ins".

Examples of Computer Hardware

Hardware is the less glamorous side of computer revolution. Both in terms of function-wise and job-wise, software gets all the credit. Everybody says, rightly, a million things about Windows, Google, Photoshop, and a number of other software programs like Adobe Acrobat, MS Office, and various kinds of programming languages. But comparing to that, the praise hardware parts get is lukewarm.

Comparing to the garlands and bouquet of praise that software receives, what hardware gets is a pat on the back, which is almost an afterthought. So, what is the difference between hardware and software? Hardware is the physical electronic, electrical, magnetic components and peripherals that constitute a computer. Software is the programs needed for effectively running the computer. For effectively running software applications, one needs proper hardware components. Examples of computer hardware include components that make up the central processing unit (CPU) of the computer like motherboard, processor, hard disk, and random access memory (RAM) and peripheral devices like keyboard, mouse, monitor, and modem.

Apple Computer

The prominent among the hardware components is processor. It is an integrated chip designed for doing an unbelievably large number of functions. The processor field has been witnessing an exciting competition between two processor-manufacturing companies: Intel and AMD. The competition has served well for the customers as the two organizations always try to go one step higher than the other and succeed on most of the occasions also. When AMD launches a processor with a special feature, Intel will invariably follow it with another feature that makes the AMDs feature bleak and vice versa. The cycle goes on as the processing speed and bit rate of the processor, two features that determine the overall efficiency, move up fast.

Another example of computer hardware is motherboard. It is a custom designed electrical and electronic circuit that act as a platform for slotting in other components of the computer. It has specific slots for specific components such as processor, hard disk, RAM, network card, graphics and video card, sound card, and internal modem. The important thing is that the components should be compatible with the motherboard.

Computer has two kinds of memory: magnetically controlled permanent memory and electrically controlled temporary memory. These memory components are our next examples of computer hardware. Hard disk is the permanent memory where all the files we save on a computer are stored. RAM is the non-permanent memory, which is used for the functional memory while running the computer.

Computer peripherals are the other set of examples of computer hardware. Mouse and keyboard are the most popular among these. CD and DVD drives also are good examples. Monitor, modem, speaker, printer, and scanner all make up the world of computer hardware. Although these are less glamorous, a minor fault in these components, for example s bit of dust on RAM, can stop the functioning of all the software applications.

Apple Computer - Steve Jobs Success Story '

"We started with a computer to get into the hands of ordinary people, and we had our wildest dreams."

- Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Computer Inc., 1976.

Apple Computer

Steve Jobs was adopted by a family of Mountain View, California. While still in high school, Jobs asked him interested in electronics William Hewlett of Hewlett-Packard appeal for some parts for a school project. HP has provided the parts and then made a job offer internships at Hewlett-Packardsummer. There, Steve Jobs Wozniak, a talented and knowledgeable engineer met five years older than the student. Their friendship would be over the foundation on which Apple's built-being.

Jobs broke Reed College after one semester and went to work designing games for Atari. He carefully saved the money he earned while working at Atari, so you can travel to India and the condensation of his growing interest in spirituality of the East.

After returning home afterIndia, Jobs and Wozniak have renewed their friendship. Jobs was a small computer to show that Wozniak had worked as a hobby, but the work immediately saw its potential and persuaded Wozniak to go into business with him. In 1975, at the age of 20 years, jobs went in the garage of his parents work at work Wozniak of Apple I prototype.

The Apple I sold modestly, but well enough to go to be able to work on an Apple II. In 1977, the new model has been put on the market. With a color of the keyboard,Monitor and user-friendly software was developed by Apple's success. The company has $ 3,000,000 in the first year and exceeded $ 200 million in the third.

But do not sell near the Apple III and his successor and called for the LISA and a significant increase in competition in the sale of PCs, Apple could lose in 1980, almost half of its revenue for IBM. It 'was even worse for the work in 1983, when he has a fight with the administration, the agency launched by CEO John Sculley,Jobs himself had hired the '.

In 1984, in response to the sharp drop in sales, jobs released the Macintosh, which introduced the world to the point-and-click simplicity of a mouse. The marketing for the Mac has been treated badly and with a price of $ 2,500, was not his way into the homes to which they had planned. Jobs has tried to package the Mac as a computer business, but without a hard drive or networking opportunities, not only for a limited ability to speakMemory, not corporate interests. In 1985, with no power in his own company, sold its shares in Apple, Jobs resigned.

Later, in 1985, Jobs started NeXT Computer Co., with the money he made from the sale of its shares in Apple. He thought of building a computer for the way in which research has been done changed. The NeXT computer, even if full processing speed previously unknown, unique graphics and an optical drive, at $ 9,950 each sold recently.

Persistent afterNeXT failures of the joint began to play with the software job and began to turn his attention to a company that had bought from George Lucas in 1986, focusing Pixar Animation Studios. Jobs has signed a framework agreement with Disney to three and started working on the first computer animation film. Published in autumn 1995, had "Toy Story", to be carried out over four years. But the work was worth it, the film was a huge hit. Pixar went public in 1996, and in a trading day, equal to 80% JobsHe became a value of $ 1000000000

Apple was struggling to have failed, a new Macintosh operating system design environment, and society takes only 5% of the PC market. Days after Pixar went public, Apple bought NeXT for $ 400 million and renamed the Board of Directors Jobs in Gilbert F. Amelio, president and CEO of the council. But in March 1997, Apple reported a quarterly loss of $ 708 million and Amelio resigned a few months later. Jobs was the interim CEO and was left to him, keep the same company that had started and had ousted alive. So he made a deal with Microsoft. By investing $ 150 million for a small part of Apple, Apple and Microsoft would "work on several fronts, sales technology," and Apple would ensure their continuation in the PC market.

Work also went to work to improve the quality of Apple computers. The introduction of the G3 PowerPC microprocessor from Apple's fastest computers on the PentiumProcessors. Apple has also turned his energies to produce low-cost desktops, the iMac, which was another success for the company. With Jobs back under control, Apple could quickly turn around, and by the end of 1998, bringing to $ 5.9 billion in sales. Jobs had returned to his first love, a little 'older and a bit' wiser. He had recovered from Apple and returning to a place where there is a contribution that new and innovative technologies for the computer world was.
